The way to the top of Mt Ama Dablam:
It all starts with your arrival in Kathmandu. During your exit, our Malung Treks & Expedition’s team will be awaiting you to start of your Ama Dablam expedition. After transferring to your hotel, will give you some time to rest, or see the sights around Thamel. This is Kathmandu’s backpackers’ paradise. A mix of connecting streets filled with hotels, shops, gear rentals, restaurants and more. At the evening Malung Treks & Expedition invites you to a complimentary dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with a special live culture show. We’ll spend the next few days preparing for your Mt Ama Dablam expedition. First up, getting our permits ready! This will be done at Nepal’s Tourism Board and can take up most of the day. Second up is getting ready for our expedition, and at Malung Treks & Expedition’s office will hold a detailed safety briefing and go over our equipment and gear. Should you be missing anything, our team will help you located in Kathmandu, and makes sure you are ready to go to the top of Mt Ama Dablam!
Following the EBC trail up to Tengboche:
On day 4 of Malung Treks & Expedition’s Mt Ama Dablam expedition, we say goodbye to the city and take off by plane to Lukla. The world’s 38th highest airport! The flight is quite scenic and you’ll enjoy the views as well as the landing. Arriving at Lukla we meet up with our porter team and make one final gear check and safety briefing before heading out. We’ll follow the trail towards Everest Base Camp up to Tengboche. This will take a total of 3 days with one day for acclimatization. It’s mostly upwards trekking through jungle trails along and with crossing the river. We head to Phakding first and then to Namche Bazaar. This scenic and traditional Sherpa town is said to be the last big stop before heading out into the mountains! We’ll spend a day here to acclimatize as we are officially at a height of 3,440m/11,286ft. From Namche Bazaar we can do many things and see many views. Out initial plan is doing a short day hike up to Khumjung to see the monastery there and practice higher elevations. Another option would be to hike up to Shyangboche and the famous Everest View Hotel before heading back down to Namche Bazaar. Having properly acclimatized we continue with this amazing Mt Ama Dablam expedition and head for the Tengboche Monastery at Tengboche. This incredible harmonious looking Himalayan monastery is where Buddhist monks come to pray and find peace in the surrounding of the mountains!
Practice at Base Camp:
After Tengboche we leave the EBC trail and head for Pangboche 3,908m/12,822ft. The next day we climb up about 600m/1,969ft to reach Ama Dablam Base Camp at 4,570m/14,993ft. At base camp there are no guest- or teahouses available and will spend the night in our first campsite. Malung Treks & Expedition’s team will have everything set up for you! In order to be prepared we’ll spend a few days here (2 to 3 days) in order to make practice runs up to Camp I and back down to Base Camp to acclimatize. We’ll also need to be mindful of the weather as we cannot afford to make any mistakes we’ll practice on safety and equipment handling as well as climbing techniques! When everything is ready we set out for the summit of Mt Ama Dablam with three camps separating us from 6,812m/22,349ft.
Summit Mt Ama Dablam 6,812m/22,349ft
We are at the main part of the Mt Ama Dablam expedition and we’ll spend the next 14 days by reaching the summit and back to base camp. First up we’ll need to reach Camp I at 5,700m/18,701ft. We’ll already know the route from our practice runs at base camp and we’ll make quick work of this part and set up at Camp I. The next few days we’ll prepare in the same way as base camp, go over safety and equipment, make practice runs upwards and back down to acclimatize, and wait for the weather to be favorable. We need to reach Camp II at 6,200m/20,342ft! We need to cross a rocky bowl and follow the trail of fixed lines along the mountains ridge to reach here. Reaching at Camp II we set up again and follow the same procedure to reach Camp III. This route is bit trickier as we’ll be climbing steeply up and we’ll be facing lots of deep snow and ice. Camp III at 6,480m/21,260ft, is our final stop before heading to the summit of Mt Ama Dablam at 6,812m/22,349ft! The climb from Camp III is incredible steep and right next to a massive glacier. While this part might be the hardest it’s also the most rewarding, as you lift yourself over the summits edge and stand up, you’ll start to realize. You’ve made it! The top of Mt Ama Dablam! The views are just incredible and seeing the Himalayas with a perfect 360 panoramic view just tops it off! You’ll be able to see incredible views of; Mt Everest, Lhotse, Makalu Island Peak and many more! After our victory, we spend the next remaining days carefully making it back to base camp.
Make your booking of Malung Treks & Expedition’s incredible Mt Ama Dablam expedition today, and reach above 6,000m/19,685ft! Discover various Sherpa Communities, follow the trail of Everest Base Camp, and climb Mt Ama Dablam!
